1st Grade Weekly Newsletter

Math- We will be reviewing and taking our test on “Topic 10.” Next we will be continuing “Topic 11- Use Models and Strategies To Subtract Tens,” we will be using an open number line to solve subtraction problems and using addition to subtract tens.

Reading- We will be starting our fifth (last) reading series reading the story Every Season. This story will help us learn our reading skills: Main Idea, describing connections, and our reading genre: Informational text.
This Week’s Sight Words- about, buy, people, would, write

Phonics- We will be identifying the sound “Long o: oa, ow, oe” found in words and “Consonant Blends and Trigraphs” sounds found in words.

Grammar- We will be identifying what “adverbs” are.

Listening- We will be reading “Earth Day” books in honor of “Earth Day” this week!

Writing- We will continue to focus on writing our letters correctly. We also will be continuing to learn about the “writing process.”

Religion- We will be learning about Chapter 19- “We Celebrate God’s Forgiveness.”

Science- We will be finishing our unit, “Sound.” Also, we will be learning about the importance of “Earth Day,” while learning to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Social Studies- We will be finishing up researching the different community helpers and their jobs in the community.

Reminders:
• This Friday, the students will be tested on their ten spelling words and sight words.

• The students will be having a Math Test on Topic 10 on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. Please review the completed work that was sent home, which we have already learned (Homework and Class Work).

• The students will be having their Science Test (Sound) on Thursday, April 22, 2021. (review the paper that was sent home).

• Our Specials Are: Monday- Gym; Tuesday- Technology; Wednesday- Spanish and Stream; Thursday-Music; Friday- Art.

April 26, 2021.

Monday:
1. Math- Review Sheet and study for the test tomorrow. Please keep the “Review Sheet” at home for review.
2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Long o: oa, ow, oe)
3. Spelling- Write spelling words (1-5) two times each.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words.
5. Additional School Work: Read for 15 minutes and record it on your Reading Log AND work on “i-ready” for 15 minutes (ELA).

Tuesday:
1. Math- No Math Homework!
2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Long o: oa, ow, oe)
3. Spelling- Write spelling words (6-10) two times each.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words.
5. Additional School Work: Read for 15 minutes and record it on your Reading Log AND work on “i-ready” for 15 minutes (MATH).

Wednesday:
1. Math- Math Workbook 11-3
2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Consonant Blends/Trigraphs)
3. Spelling- Pick five spelling words, and write one sentence for each of the five words. (Continuing from now on, I would like the students to put the (5) spelling words in meaningful sentences. This will help the students develop better writing skills. For example: I see a giant bear at the zoo. Instead of I see a giant bear. )
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words.
5. Science- Study for the test tomorrow.
6. Additional School Work: Read for 15 minutes and record it on your Reading Log AND work on “Freckle” for 15 minutes (ELA).

Thursday:
1. Math- Math Workbook 11-4
2. Grammar- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Adverbs)
3. Spelling- Practice the spelling words, for a test tomorrow.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words, to be assessed tomorrow.
5. Additional School Work: Read for 15 minutes and record it on your Reading Log AND work on “Freckle” for 15 minutes (MATH).
