1st Grade Weekly Newsletter

Math- We will be counting tens and ones to find a two-digit number, using drawings to solve problems with tens and ones, decomposing numbers in multiple ways, and using tens and ones to make numbers in different ways.

Reading- We will be continuing our fourth reading series reading the story Jackie Robinson. This story will help us learn our reading skills: Main Idea, text structure, and our reading genre: Biography text.
This Week’s Sight Words- any, every, pull, very, were

Phonics- We will be identifying the sound the “r-controlled er/ir/ur” found in words and “adding endings –ed/-ing” found in words.

Grammar- We will be identifying what “past verb tense” are.

Listening- We will be continuing our next author study on “Marc Brown.”

Writing- We will continue to focus on writing our letters correctly. We also will be continuing to learn about the “writing process.”

Science- We will be continuing our next unit, “Sound.”

Social Studies- We will be recognizing that families have unlimited wants but limited resources to satisfy their wants, and identifying the different American holidays we celebrate.

Religion- We will be learning about Chapter 20- “Lent” and what is “Ash Wednesday.” Also, we will be learning about the “Stations of the Cross.”

Reminders:
• This Friday, the students will be tested on their ten spelling words and sight words.

• The students will be having a Math Test on Topic 8 on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. Please review the completed work that was sent home, which we have already learned (Homework and Class Work).

• The students will be having their next Social Studies Test on Thursday, March 10, 2022 (review the paper that was sent home).

• Our Specials Are: Monday- Spanish; Tuesday- Art; Wednesday- STREAM and Gym; Thursday-Music; Friday- Mass and Technology.

2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- r- Controlled Vowel er/ir/ur)
3. Spelling- Write spelling words (1-5) two times each.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words.
5. Science- MobyMax Sound Lesson is due today!

Tuesday:
1. Math- Math Workbook 8-5
2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- r- Controlled Vowel er/ir/ur)
3. Spelling- Write spelling words (6-10) two times each.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words.

Wednesday:
1. Math- Math Workbook 8-6
2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Adding Endings –ed/-ing)
3. Spelling- Pick five spelling words, and write one sentence for each of the five words. (Starting from now on, I would like the students to put the (5) spelling words in meaningful sentences. This will help the students develop better writing skills. For example: I see a giant bear at the zoo. Instead of I see a giant bear. )
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words.

Thursday:
1. Math- Math Workbook 8-7
2. Grammar- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Past Verb Tense)
3. Spelling- Practice the spelling words, for a test tomorrow.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words, to be assessed tomorrow.
