1st Grade Weekly Newsletter

Math- We will be interpreting organized data, using a picture graph to interpret data, and using perseverance to solving problems about sets of data.

Reading- We will be starting our reading series reading the story Poetry Collection. This story will help us learn our reading skills: Main Idea and Illustrating Important Details and our reading genre: Informational Text.
This Week’s Sight Words- live, or, out, who, work

Phonics- We will be identifying “long e: ee, e sounds” and the “inflectional ending -ed” sound.

Grammar- We will be identifying what a “pronoun” is.

Listening- We will be doing a week author study on Howard Binkow who wrote the “Howard B Wigglebottom” books about life lessons.

Writing- We will continue to focus on writing our letters correctly. We also will be continuing to learn about the “writing process.”

Science- We will be doing a study on “Polar Bears.” We will be learning characteristics of polar bears and learning how a polar bear mother takes care of her cubs.

Social Studies- We will be learning about the life Martin Luther King, Jr. and analyzing the reasons for peaceful protests and how they work, both in Dr. King’s time and today.

Religion- We will be learning about Chapter 12- “The Church Serves.”

Reminders:
• This Friday, the students will be tested on their ten spelling words and sight words.

• The students will be having a Math test on “TOPIC 6” on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.
Please review the completed work that was sent home, which we have already learned (Homework and Class Work).

• Our Specials Are: Monday- Gym; Tuesday- Technology; Wednesday- Spanish and Stream; Thursday-Music; Friday- Art.

Homework Assignments

Monday: No School- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Tuesday:
1. Math- Math Workbook 6-3
2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Long e: ee, e)
3. Spelling- Write spelling words (1-10) two times each.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words.
5. Additional School Work: Read for 15 minutes and record it on your Reading Log AND work on “i-ready” for 15 minutes.

Wednesday:
1. Math- Math Workbook 6-4
2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Inflectional Ending -ed)
3. Spelling- Pick five spelling words, and write one sentence for each of the five words.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words.
5. Additional School Work: Read for 15 minutes and record it on your Reading Log AND work on “Freckle” for 15 minutes.

Thursday:
1. Math- Math Workbook 6-5
2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Pronouns)
3. Spelling- Practice the spelling words, for a test tomorrow.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words, to be assessed tomorrow.
5. Additional School Work: Read for 15 minutes and record it on your Reading Log AND work on “i-ready” for 15 minutes.
