1st Grade Weekly Newsletter

Math- We will be reviewing and taking our test on “Topic 6.” Then, we will then start “Topic 7-Extend The Counting Sequence,” where we will be counting by 10s to 120 and counting by 1s to 120.

Reading- We will be starting our reading series reading the story The Cow and The Tiger. This story will help us learn our reading skills: Main Idea and Visualize Details and our reading genre: Fable.
This Week’s Sight Words- down, drink, now, there, together

Phonics- We will be identifying “vowel sounds of y” and the “VCCV” words.

Listening- We will be doing a week author study on Howard Binkow who wrote the “Howard B Wigglebottom” books about life lessons.

Writing- We will continue to focus on writing our letters correctly. We also will be continuing to learn about the “writing process.”

Science- We will be continuing our study on “Polar Bears.” We will be learning characteristics of polar bears and learning how a polar bear mother takes care of her cubs.

Social Studies- We will be sequencing events chronologically on a horizontal time line and identifying why it is important that each family member helps to do chores in the home.

Reminders:
• This Friday, the students will be tested on their ten spelling words and sight words.

• The students will be having a Math test on “TOPIC 6” on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.
Please review the completed work that was sent home, which we have already learned (Homework and Class Work).

• Also, the students will be having their Religion Test on Unit 2 on Thursday,
January 28, 2021. (review Chapters 8-14 and Chapter Reviews in their Religion Books).

• Our Specials Are: Monday- Gym; Tuesday- Technology; Wednesday- Spanish and Stream; Thursday-Music; Friday- Art.

Homework Assignments

Monday:
1. Math- Study for the test tomorrow.
2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Vowel Sounds Of y)
3. Spelling- Write spelling words (1-5) two times each.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words.
5. Additional School Work: Read for 15 minutes and record it on your Reading Log AND work on “i-ready” for 15 minutes (ELA).

Tuesday:
1. Math- No Math Homework!
2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Vowel Sounds Of y)
3. Spelling- Write spelling words (6-10) two times each.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words.
5. Additional School Work: Read for 15 minutes and record it on your Reading Log AND work on “i-ready” for 15 minutes (MATH).

Wednesday:
1. Math- Math Workbook 7-1
2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- VCCV)
3. Spelling- Pick five spelling words, and write one sentence for each of the five words.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words.
5. Additional School Work: Read for 15 minutes and record it on your Reading Log AND work on “Freckle” for 15 minutes (ELA).

Thursday:
1. Math- Math Workbook 7-2
2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Pronouns)
3. Spelling- Practice the spelling words, for a test tomorrow.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words, to be assessed tomorrow.
5. Additional School Work: Read for 15 minutes and record it on your Reading Log AND work on “Freckle” for 15 minutes (MATH).

Friday: Have A Good Weekend!!!
