E.L.A. – Unit 6  Essential Question- What are different ways of building?

Week 2- Essential Question– What tools do you need to build things? 

High-Frequency Words- where,  is,  go,  that,  come

Amazing Words- saw, hammer, file, drill, screwdriver, chisel

Please review the meanings of the above words with your child.

Story of the Week- This week we will listen, talk, sing, read, and write about tools and things we build with them.

Google Meet- To listen to, Old MacDonald had a Woodshop by Lisa Shulman.


Blend Words- (This can be done orally. It doesn’t have to be written out.)  Let’s blend sounds together.                  Listen as I blend the sounds:  /l/ /o/ /t/——> lot                                                                                                                     Listen as I use had in a sentence: It takes a lot of time.  Say the sentence with me. Then have children use had in their own sentence.                                                                                                                                                                                  Continue the process with the words below:

God Made All People

Catechist Goal- To emphasize that God made all people.                                                                                                             Our Faith Response- To identify ways through which we can enjoy God’s world.                                                                        The Prayer Space As you place the following objects in the prayer space, explain their significance to the children.

  1. The Bible reminds us of God’s love for us. 2. A globe reminds us that there are many people who live in this world.                                                                                                                                                                                          Pray-  Invite the children to think about all the different people in the world. then read the Scripture verse.       WB p. 77

Pronouns I  and me                                                                                                                                                                                 Remind children of what they learned about pronouns I and me. You use the words I and me when you are talking about yourself. I and me are pronouns, or words that take the place of nouns. Guide Practice- Ask children to make up a sentence about themselves and a friend doing something they enjoy. Have children use the following sentence frame: My friend and ______ like to ______.                                                            Have children illustrate their sentence. 


Review- Review the previously taught high- frequency words. Have children read each word as you point to it.

Science – The Colorful Celery Experiment  Directions were e-mailed home. 

Math- Taller Than Teddy?                                                                                                                                              Materials-  Teddy bear and other large dolls, trucks, building blocks                                                                                           – Have students sit a teddy bear on the floor and then build a tower that is tall as “Teddy,” the bear.                                     – Help students use comparative language. For example, they can say, “My tower is as tall as Teddy.”                                   – Repeat with toy trucks etc. 

  OR                                                                                                                                                                                                       Line Up the Family                                                                                                                                                                      Have students list members of their families, including their pets. Then have them draw pictures of family members according to height. Who is the tallest in the family? Who is the shortest in the family? etc.     

Math- Flipgrid  Assignment on 2-D Shapes ( May 22nd)                                                                                                        Please check your e-mail for directions. The children will draw and describe a 2-D shape: Include the name of the shape and its attributes ( sides,vertices). Tip: I chose a ____. My shape has ___ sides and ___vertices. The children will record their responses. Send it when you are happy with the recording.

Catch Up Day- 

  1. There were four assignments given on BrainPop Jr.  Watch the videos on Needs and Wants, Plant Life Cycle, Rain forests, Butterflies and Spring and then take the Easy Quiz. Take a picture of your child’s score and send it to me.  ( I am only missing 1 or 2 scores.)
  2. Please log onto epic and complete any assignments you haven’t gotten to. Start with We Can Reuse It! by Craig Marks and take the short quiz.  Class Code- hpq7348
