1st Grade Weekly Newsletter

Math-We will be indirectly comparing objects by length, using small-size objects to measure length, and choosing an appropriate tool and use it to measure a given object. Next, we will begin “Topic 13- Time and Money,” where we will learning the values of the (penny, nickel, dime, quarter) and telling how much a group of coins is worth.

Reading- We will be continuing our fifth reading series reading the story My Autumn Book. This story will help us learn our reading skills: Main Idea, Theme, and our reading genre: Fiction text.
This Week’s Sight Words- eight, house, learn, move, only

Phonics- We will be identifying the sound “Long i/Long o” found in words and “Suffixes –ly/-ful” sounds found in words.

Grammar- We will be identifying what “Prepositional Phrases” are.

Listening- We will be continuing our next author study, “Tomie dePaola.”

Writing- We will continue to focus on writing our letters correctly. We also will be continuing to learn about the “writing process.”

Religion- We will be learning about Chapter 23- “We Celebrate the Mass.”

Social Studies- We will be continuing to learn about famous people: Florence Nightingale and Amelia Earhart.

Science- We will be continuing our next unit, “Light.”

Health- We will be starting to identify food groups.

Reminders:
• On Friday, the students will be tested on their ten spelling words and sight words.

• The students will be given an oral Religion Test on the two prayers (Angel of God AND Doxology “Glory Be To The Father”) throughout this week.

• The students will be having a Math Test on Topic 12 on Tuesday, May 12, 2022.
Please review the completed work that was sent home, which we have already learned (Homework and Class Work).

• Our Specials Are: Monday- Spanish; Tuesday- Art; Wednesday- STREAM and Gym; Thursday-Music; Friday- Mass and Technology.

Monday:
1. Math- Math Workbook 12-2
2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Long i/Long o)
3. Spelling- Write spelling words (1-5) two times each.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words.
5. Additional School Work: MobyMax “Light” Lesson Due next Monday (5/16)

Tuesday:
1. Math- Math Workbook 12-3
2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Long i/Long o)
3. Spelling- Write spelling words (6-10) two times each.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words.
5. Additional School Work: Do “I-Ready” ELA for 15 minutes.

Wednesday:
1. Math- Math Workbook 12-4
2. Phonics- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Suffixes –ly/-ful)
3. Spelling- Pick five spelling words, and write one sentence for each of the five words. (Continuing from now on, I would like the students to put the (5) spelling words in meaningful sentences. This will help the students develop better writing skills. For example: I see a giant bear at the zoo. Instead of I see a giant bear.)
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words.
5. Additional School Work: MobyMax “Light” Lesson Due next Monday (5/16)

Thursday:
1. Math- Math Workbook 13-1
2. Grammar- Phonics Workbook Packet (1 Page- Prepositional Phrases)
3. Spelling- Practice the spelling words, for a test tomorrow.
4. Sight Words- Practice the sight words, to be assessed tomorrow.
5. Additional School Work: Do “I-Ready” Math for 15 minutes.

Friday: 1. Additional School Work: MobyMax “Light” Lesson Due next Monday (5/16)
