Spanish Class Week Ending 5/19

Grade 5 – In class the students were given their quizzes back. I spoke with them to understand why more students that I had expected struggled with some of the questions. A large portion of the class explained that they felt they had not studied the endings enough as practice for their quiz. Following that, we continued exploring -IR Verbs. Students worked in groups in a Think, Pair, Share model to create sentences using our new -IR verbs. For homework, the students are to identify the differences between -ER and -IR verbs (they are allowed to use the Verb Worksheets to help them). Please let me know if you have any questions.

Grade 2 – In class, the students took their alphabet test. While the students did well (the tests have already been graded and posted on to Option C) I was rather disappointed in their behavior during the test. I had to speak to several students about what is and is not appropriate behavior during a test and how talking is by no means acceptable. Following the test, we used the last few minutes to explore our new topic of colors! The students watched a video on the colors and next week we will be introducing the vocabulary. There is no homework assigned for Spanish tonight. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Grade 4 – In class the students were given their quizzes back. Overall the class did very well and I was extremely proud of them.

Grade 6 – In class the students were given their quizzes back. Overall the class did very well and I was extremely proud of them.

Kindergarten – In class we worked on the Letters W and X. The students are making great progress in their ability to write words along with their definitions. Next week, we will be wrapping up the alphabet with Y and Z. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Grade 7 – In class the students were given their quizzes back.

Grade 8 – In class we explored the topic of -IR Verbs. Students worked in groups for a Think, Pair, Share activity where they generated their own sentences using the -IR verbs along with vocabulary we have learned over the last 2 years.  Following that, we went over our plans for the next 2 weeks as students will be taking a test on verbs at the end of this unit rather than a quiz. For homework, the students are to identify the differences between -ER and -IR verbs (they are allowed to use the Verb Worksheets to help them). Please let me know if you have any questions.

Grade 1 – In class we prepared for their alphabet test next week. We went through the following video to practice their annunciation and word association with the Spanish alphabet. The only homework is to study for their test next week. I will read the words in Spanish and they will have to tell me what letter the word begins with. For example, if I say the word “Llave” they will need to know that it begins with the letter “LL”. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Grade 3 –  In class, the students took their Food Vocabulary Quiz. The quizzes have been graded and posted on to Option C. I can say overall, the students did well and I was very proud of them. Following the quiz, we began to explore the topic of Family related vocabulary. We discussed in English the titles of members of a family (mom, dad, brother, sister, cousin, etc.) and next week I will be giving them the words in Spanish. There is no homework due this week. Please let me know if you have any questions.
