COVID QUARANTINE PROTOCOLS

Although this document refers to “students,” employees of the Academy must adhere to these Diocesan guidelines, too.

The date of the test/exposure is considered DAY 0.

  1. If a household member tests positive:
    1. unvaccinated student must remain quarantined for the household member’s 10-day quarantine + an additional 10-day quarantine for him/herself. Getting a subsequent negative test does not change this.
    1. vaccinated student must remain quarantined for 10 days from the date of the household member’s positive test.

Examples:

  • Carla is unvaccinated. Her brother tests positive on January 3. Carla must remain quarantined until January 24. (10 days + 10 days)
  • Oliver is vaccinated. His dad tests positive on January 3. Oliver can return on January 14. (10 days from his dad’s test)
  • If a close contact (non-household member) is positive:
    • unvaccinated student must remain quarantined for 10 days from the date of exposure. On Day 5 of their quarantine, s/he may take a Covid test (rapid, home or PCR) and, with a negative result, return to attending school on Day 8 unless the entire class or cohort is out on quarantine. The Academy must have verification of the test result.
    • a fully vaccinated, asymptomatic student may continue to attend school in person unless the entire class or cohort is out on quarantine. These students are encouraged to take a test 3 – 5 days after exposure.

Examples:

  • David is unvaccinated. His classmate, Steve, has identified him as a close contact. Steve was last in school with David on Jan 8. David must remain quarantined until January 19. (10 days from exposure)
  • On January 13, David takes a Covid test and receives a negative result. He can return on January 16 since his class is in-person.
  • Paula is vaccinated and is asymptomatic. She may continue to come to school, but since her entire class is out on quarantine, she cannot.  
  • If a student tests positive:
    • regardless of vaccination status, must quarantine for 10 days.
    • In Kindergarten – Grade 8, student, parents, teacher/staff identify close contacts.
    • In 3K and PreK, all people (adults and children) in the room during the infectious period are considered close contacts.
    • The infectious period is 2 days before a positive test date; i.e., if the test is given on January 8 and comes back positive, the infectious period is considered to be between January 6 – 8.

Example:

  • Flora tests positive on January 3. She can return on January 14.

  • If a student or any household member is waiting for PCR results, the student may not come to school, even if asymptomatic.
  • A doctor’s note is required to return to school after an absence of 3 days or more FOR ANY REASON.
  • No one should return to school unless they are asymptomatic (no fever, sustained coughing, diarrhea or vomiting) for 24 hours or more.
  • In 3K and 4K, a close contact is everyone in the class who was present during the positive positive’s infectious period. In Grades K – 8, a close contact is defined as those people who are identified by the positive person as being within 3 feet for 10 minutes or mor during the positive’s infectious period.
