Dear Parents/Guardians

As we approach the New Year, and the return to school on Monday, January 4, 2021, tough decisions had to be made. The Board of Directors has convened several times in the past week. They have examined the positivity rate in the local area, which is 6.8% and rising. They have focused attention on the multiple cases of COVID-19 reported in our own community. They have discussed the very real possibility that holiday gatherings have occurred in which close contacts have taken place and precautions have been reduced. They recognize the fact that COVID testing has not been put in place for the first week of January, although a new company has been attained and a contract will be signed early next week. Finally, and most importantly, they have discussed in great detail the safety of our students, our faculty members, and all of their family members.

Keeping all of this in mind, the Board has decided that St. Stanislaus Kostka CAQN will start the new year with two weeks of Remote Learning, beginning on Monday, January 4th and continuing until Friday, January 15th. We pray that students will be able to return to in person learning on Tuesday, January 19th, following the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. These two weeks will be considered an “After Holiday Quarantine” in which we can return to the protocols that will keep everyone in the community safe. The two weeks would cover the recommended 14-day quarantine mandated by the Department of Health for anyone who has come in contact with someone who has had a positive COVID test. All faculty and staff members will be required to submit a PCR test result prior to returning to in class instruction.

The Board is acutely aware of the burden that this may place on families, and they do not take this responsibility lightly. However, their deep commitment to the safety of all is their guiding principle. We will continue to follow the schedules that were shared in December. Each teacher will review the protocols with their individual classes before Monday, January 4th.

As the principal and educational leader of St. Stan’s, I once again assure you of my confidence in the ability of our faculty and staff to provide professional, engaging, and standard based lessons for all students. As always, I am available to you for any questions or concerns that you may have.

Stay well and safe,

Mrs. Catherine Mangone
